Tajikistan offers great hikes in the Pamir mountains as well as the area along the Afghan border in the south. The most beautiful and pleasant country in this region is unquestionably Kyrgyzstan. While comparatively small, Kyrgyzstan offers several glacial lakes surrounded by grean meadows (jailoos) complete with yurts and horses, alpine hiking, small quaint villages, good food, and some of the most hospitable people in the world!
