The country’s pristine landscapes and diverse wildlife are protected by national parks and wildlife reserves totalling 10,773 square kilometres (4,159 sq mi).
The country currently has 32 national parks, 51 wildlife refuges, 13 forest reserves and eight biological reserves that protect rainforests, along with tropical dry forests, cloud forests, marine areas and wetlands.
