Wildlife Reserves of Costa Rica

Located in southern Central America, between Panama to the south and Nicaragua to the north, Costa Rica is best known for its rainforests brimming with tropical flora and fauna, active volcanoes, and some of the best beaches in the world.

Located in southern Central America, between Panama to the south and Nicaragua to the north, Costa Rica is best known for its rainforests brimming with tropical flora and fauna, active volcanoes, and some of the best beaches in the world.

The country’s pristine landscapes and diverse wildlife are protected by national parks and wildlife reserves totalling 10,773 square kilometres (4,159 sq mi).

The country currently has 32 national parks, 51 wildlife refuges, 13 forest reserves and eight biological reserves that protect rainforests, along with tropical dry forests, cloud forests, marine areas and wetlands.
